Compost Australia hosted the annual Ball to celebrate the commencement of International Composting Awareness Week 2010 at Doltone House, Darling Island Wharf, Pyrmont on Saturday, 1st May 2010.
Held each year since 2007, the Compost Ball is THE annual event for the recycled organics industry in NSW. A significant part of this major event was the Compost Leadership Awards, presented to recognise leadership and innovation within the recycled organics industry during the 2009 calendar year. This year, four awards were presented:
The GCM Enviro Leadership in the recycled organics industry (major award) was presented to the Centre for Organic and Resource Enterprises (CORE) for their efforts in promoting awareness, markets, linkages and innovative recycled materials for the whole compost industry.
The Komptech Australia Most improved contamination management in source separated organics was presented to the Resource Recovery Centre (Wingecarribee Shire Council) for its work in identifying and investigating screening options for the effective removal of needle-type contaminants in the production of compost.
The NSW DECCW Leadership in compost community education was presented to the Urban Compost Revolution (Randwick and Waverley Councils) in recognition of these Councils’ innovative approach to reduce organic waste (by reusing food and other compostable materials) on a local scale.
The Sydney Environmental and Soil Laboratory Most innovative recycled organics product design (for a specific application) was presented to the Erosion Control System of Seeded Ecoblankets and Ecoberms (The Hills Bark Blower) for its initiatives in providing an accepted, viable alternative to jute matting and hydro-seeding for slope stabilisation in road construction.
Congratulations to the winners!
